Woodford Reserve Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey will be available in select markets nationwide in February.

Rye-based whiskey is harder to craft than any traditional bourbon, but Woodford Reserve did it anyway. Using a 53 percent rye base, the distillery crafted Woodford Reserve Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey.

This is the third in Woodford Reserve’s whiskey portfolio, joining Woodford Reserve Distiller’s Select and Woodford Reserve Double Oaked.

A rich honey in color, this whiskey’s spicy aroma contains notes of rye, cassia bark, black pepper, cedar and marzipan, with a hint of almond and fruit. The flavor is said to be that of clove, honey, mint and rye, along with a touch of malt and apple.

Master Distiller Chris Morris started crafting Woodford Reserve Rye back in 2006. Here’s what he has to say about it:

Woodford Reserve Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey will be available in February 2015 in select markets, including California, Colorado, District of Columbia, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, New York (Metro and Upstate), New Jersey, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia and Washington.
