Alec Bradley Double Broadleaf & Heaven Hill Heritage Collection
Alec Bradley Double Broadleaf & Heaven Hill Heritage Collection Bourbon
The Double Broadleaf from Alec Bradley is a newly released cigar that’s housed in a gorgeous green box with a green and gold band to match. The Double Broadleaf is part of The Experimental Series by the brand. This addition has an aromatic chewing tobacco scent on prelight, and there’s a fair amount of upper palate spice once the cigar is fired up.
As the smoke progresses, there’s a subtle barbecue flavor profile, much like slow-roasted brisket and hearty beef. This cigar has a unique build as it doubles down from wrapper to filler: Connecticut Broadleaf wraps the cigar, and also binds it. Nicaraguan tobacco fills the cigar and binds it as well. So, while there are two instances of Broadleaf in this stick, there are also two binders.
I paired the Double Broadleaf with Heaven Hill’s new Heritage Collection, the first release of this barrel-strength bourbon. Using a corn-dominant mashbill, the Heritage Collection is aged over 17 years. Scintillating notes of leather and vanilla blend well with the cigar, and the woodiness pairs extremely well with the barbecue elements of the AB Double Broadleaf. This is a perfect special occasion whiskey with a special occasion cigar to match. Overall, it’s a rich and flavorful experience.
