I have heard Africa is a fantastic place to visit. A friend of mine cherishes the year she lived there when she was in the Peace Corps. It’s a place she recommends everyone travel to at least once in their lives. Before booking flights and hotels, get a taste for the flavors of Africa by indulging in one or all of these cocktails.
WORLD COCKTAIL TOUR STOP SIX: AFRICA
Country: South Africa
Cocktail: Saharan Martini
Ingredients: 2 oz Amarula Cream, 2 oz Frangelico, 1 oz Vodka, Ice Cubes
Garnish: Chocolate Elephant
Directions: Put all ingredients in a cocktail shaker and shake well. Strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a chocolate elephant placed on the edge of the glass.
Country: Morocco
Cocktail: Moroccan Mint Tea
Ingredients: 15 whole Mint Leaves, 2 cups Ice Tea (sweetened), 1 splash Rose’s Lime Cordial Mixer, 1 cup Vodka, Ice Cubes
Garnish: Lime Wedge
Directions: Put the ice and mint leaves in a cocktail shaker. Shake until the mint leaves are bruised. Add the rest of the ingredients and shake. Serve in a highball glass with a lime wedge garnish. NOTE: This recipe serves 3 to 4.
Country: Zimbabwe
Cocktail: Monkey Gland
Ingredients: 30 ml Gin, 10 ml Apple juice, 5 ml Parfait Amour liqueur, 5 ml Grenadine Syrup, Ice Cubes
Garnish: Orange Twist
Directions: Put all ingredients, including the ice, in a cocktail shaker. Shake well, then strain into a cocktail glass. Serve garnished with an orange twist.
