Diageo, Maker of Captain Morgan Rum Sues Captain Amsterdam

Does Captain Amsterdam too closely resemble Captain Morgan?

By John B. Vrrata

And you thought Hollywood was out of ideas. It turns out that Prep Enterprises, LLC of New York appears to have created a logo so similar to Captain Morgan, of Captain MKorgan rum fame, that Diageo, the owner of the iconic rum brand has filed a lawsuit against the vitamin and mineral seller over its Captain Amsterdam logo.

The company that sells rum under the Captain Morgan trade name says that Captain Amsterdam, a maker of food supplements such as vitamins, minerals, beauty treatments and homeopathic remedies, says that the Captain Amsterdam logo is too similar to that of Captain Morgan and is causing irreparable injury to the Captain Morgan trademark.

“Captain Morgan is one of the most well-known and iconic spirit brands in the US and globally. We will strongly protect our intellectual property rights,” Diageo said in a statement released to the media.
