As we journey around the world by way of the cocktail, we invite you taste drinks from various countries. For our fourth stop on the World Cocktail Tour, we leave the Americas for the Asian continent. Try one or all – just be sure to enjoy the journey.
WORLD COCKTAIL TOUR STOP FOUR: ASIA
Country: Japan
Cocktail: Hokkaido Cocktail
Ingredients: 44 ml gin, 15 ml triple sec liqueur, 30 ml sake, ice cubes
Directions: Shake the gin, triple sec, sake and ice. Strain into a cocktail glass and serve.
Country: Israel
Cocktail: Midnight Search
Ingredients: 2.5 oz light rum, 3.5 oz orange juice, 1 oz lemon juice, 1 tbsp sugar, ice cubes
Directions: Shake all the ingredients along with the ice. Then strain into an ice-filled highball glass. Serve.
Country: India
Cocktail: Bombay
Ingredients: 60 ml cognac, 10 ml dry vermouth, 10 ml sweet vermouth, 3 dashes crème de cacao, ice cubes
Directions: Put all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker and shake. Strain into a cocktail glass, then serve.
Country: Thailand
Cocktail: Monk’s Madness
Ingredients: 20 ml strawberry liqueur, 60 ml cream, 30 ml crème de cacao, 60 ml Benedictine liqueur, crushed ice
Garnish: Chocolate shavings
Directions: Combine all the ingredients into a cocktail shaker and shake thoroughly. Strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with the chocolate shavings. Serve.
Country: China
Cocktail: Last Emperor
Ingredients: 30 ml Canadian whisky, 30 ml white vermouth, 30 ml orange juice, 15 ml Grand Marnier, 1 dash angostura bitters, ice cubes
Garnish: Orange zest
Directions: Put the ice in a mixing glass. Pour in all other ingredients. Lightly stir and then strain into a cocktail glass. Add the orange zest and serve.
Country: Philippines
Cocktail: Manila Fizz
Ingredients: 2 oz gin, 2 oz root beer, juice of ½ a lemon, 1 egg, 1 tsp powdered sugar, ice cubes
Directions: Shake all the ingredients, including the ice, in a cocktail shaker. Strain into a highball glass after putting two ice cubes in the glass.
Country: Mongolia
Cocktail: Mongolian
Ingredients: ½ oz vodka, ½ oz gin, ½ oz rum, ½ oz orange liqueur, ½ oz banana liqueur, ½ oz melon liqueur, 1 oz orange juice, 1 oz grapefruit juice, 1 oz apple juice, 1 splash grenadine syrup, ice cubes
Directions: Put all of the ingredients in a cocktail shaker and shake well. Strain into an ice-filled highball glass.
Country: Syria
Cocktail: Arak Punch
Ingredients: 3 cups water, 8 cloves, 2 cinnamon (small sticks), 4 cups dry red wine, 1 cup arak, ice cubes
Directions: Boil water, cloves and cinnamon sticks in a pot. Keep the pot covered while boiling for 10 minutes. Remove the cloves and cinnamon sticks and allow to cool. Pour into a punch bowl along with the dry red wine, arak and ice cubes. Stir. Serve in an ice-filled lowball glass.
Country: Saudi Arabia
Cocktail: Third Degree
Ingredients: 90 ml gin, 10 ml pernod, 30 ml dry vermouth, ice cubes
Garnish: Lemon zest
Directions: Place all ingredients in a cocktail shaker and shake well. Strain into a cocktail glass and garnish with a lemon zest.
Country: Malaysia
Cocktail: Sing Sing
Ingredients: 60 ml Scotch whisky, 30 ml sweet vermouth, 30 ml orange curaçao liqueur, ice cubes
Garnish: Orange zest twist
Directions: Shake all of the ingredients in a cocktail shaker. Strain into a cocktail glass. Serve with an orange zest twist as garnish.
