Gordon & Macphail: Port Ellen 1970, Connoisseurs Choise

The spirit is from Port Ellen distillery, a much sought after distillery by collector as it was closed down in 1983. It is now one of the most popular ‘silent’ distilleries and when it’s annual limited release bottles by Diageo fetch around £2000.

Tasting Notes: This particular bottle was bottled by Gordon & Macphail for their Connoisseurs Choice series. Distilled in 1970 and bottled at 40.00% in the late 1980s.

TASTE WITHOUT WATER: Sweet, but ashy, peat smoke elements quickly emerge. Some hints of kippers linger. TASTE WITH WATER: Sweet, peat smoke and charred wood – some birch influences.
ABV 40% | RETAIL $1,231.58
